Cell C Sharks (CC) 29 - 14 Golden Lions

The Sharks ensured that they will contest this year's Currie Cup final on home turf, after their 29-14 victory over the Lions in Durban on Saturday.

Tries from French international Frederic Michalak, and Springbok Ryan Kankowski saw the Sharks to the win.

The Sharks started well, and were 13-0 up within 15 minutes, after scoring a dazzling try. The home side attacked from well within their own territory before the ball was worked to Kankowski, tight to the touchline, 50m out. The backrower pinned his ears and galloped in, beating two defenders on the way.

Doppies la Grange replied with a try for the visitors, but the Sharks were able to up the tempo and stretch the lead out with Michalak's try. With such momentum, the Sharks were able to go in at half-time 26-7.

The Lions were able to work themselves back into the game in the second period, and enjoyed more than parity in terms of possession - but key errors let them down.

With the Sharks sitting on the lead, and rotating key players, they were only able to add to their tally with a solitary penalty.

Their defence held firm right unili the closing stages, with further Lions points only coming right at the death, with a try by Jaques Fourie.
