Western Province have dispelled reports linking their senior coach, Rassie Erasmus, with a role at the South African Rugby Union (SARU).

The union reacted to reports in a Cape Town newspaper by issuing a curt statement on the matter, reiterating that Erasmus would not be leaving Newlands. The former Springbok flanker is contracted until the end of 2012.

Springbok coach Peter De Villiers is currently awaiting a SARU performance review and speculation over his future in the top job remains fierce.

"Rassie is committed to WP Rugby and is a valued and respected member of the coaching staff. The rumours of a rift and an imminent move have absolutely no basis." Western Province managing director Rob Wagner said.
