Northampton fly-half Stephen Myler says the Saints' new signings are showing the required commitment and courage in pre-season training.

Saints bolstered their squad with a host of players including fly-half Ryan Lamb, centre Tom May and winger Noah Cato after reaching the final of the Heineken Cup and the Aviva Premiership play-offs last season.

With a number of key players, including England trio Chris Ashton, Ben Foden and Tom Wood, set to travel to the Rugby World Cup, Northampton will need a strong squad if they are to maintain challenges on two fronts.

"We've got a few new lads in this year, which will hopefully add to the strength of our squad, which is important," Myler told the Evening Telegraph. "They've fitted in well so far. The main thing is they are knuckling down, working hard and giving everything, which the conditioning team and the coaches expect from us. It seems to be going well so far."

After seeing off competition for the No.10 shirt from Shane Geraghty last season, Myler will have a tough task in holding on to the jersey following the arrival of former London Irish and Gloucester fly-half.

"He's a chirpy little character as everybody knows and he's thoroughly enjoying pre-season as the rest of the lads that have come in are doing," said Myler of his rival. "He's working hard as we're all doing."
