South Africa full-back Willie Le Roux will have a scan on a suspected fractured cheekbone which could see him ruled out of the rest of the Springboks' end of year tour.

Le Roux took a blow to the face as he provided the sumptuous off-load for scrum-half Cobus Reinach's try just after half-time against England at Twickenham on Saturday. Le Roux played on to complete the full 80 minutes but severe swelling prevented him from training in Padova, Italy on Monday.

Springboks' team doctor Craig Roberts said Le Roux would have an X-ray to determine his availability for Saturday's test against Italy and the final match of the tour against Wales a week later. If the cheekbone was fractured he would be ruled out for "three to four weeks", said Roberts.

If unavailable, it is likely that Pat Lambie, who played at fly-half against England, would shift to full-back and Handré Pollard would return to the No.10 jersey.

South Africa's only other injury concern is tight-head prop Jannie du Plessis, who hyper-extended his knee in a ruck but also strained a hamstring against England. Du Plessis is a serious doubt for the Italy test and a replacement has already been called up in uncapped Lions prop Ruan Dreyer.
