Profile

Welsh centre Scott Williams' meteoric rise during the 2010-11 season looks set to continue after Warren Gatland praised his performances during the pre-World Cup training camps.

Williams joined Llanelli RFC from Whitland RFC before signing for the Scarlets in 2009. Williams progressed through the Wales age groups playing for the U16, U18 and U20 sides in the process. Despite having just 20 games for the Scarlets under his belt - Williams was a shock inclusion in Wales' squad for the Test match against the Barbarians on June 4 2011.

Williams came off the bench in the second-half around the hour mark as a replacement for Gavin Henson and following praise from Gatland looks set to play some part in Wales' warm-up Tests prior to the 2011 World Cup. Williams may even gate crash the final 30-man squad following Gatland's admission that the 21-year-old is challenging Henson for a place on the plane to New Zealand.

Williams took his bow for the national side in the World Cup against Namibia in New Plymouth. And he marked his first start for Wales in style with a superb hat-trick as Wales ran in 12 tries winning 81-7.

The centre continued to play back-up to Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies at the start of Wales' Six Nations campaign. But he came off the bench to replace Roberts against England and scored the match-winning try that secured the Triple Crown on English turf. Williams kept his spot on the bench for the final two matches of the campaign and came onto the field against France to help guide Wales to the historic Grand Slam.
