Glasgow lock Tom Ryder has been drafted into the Scotland squad for the opening two games of the Six Nations.

The 26-year-old replaces Fraser McKenzie for the time being, after the Sale second-rower picked up an arm injury in his side's Amlin Challenge Cup loss to Brive on Thursday.

McKenzie will see a specialist surgeon to confirm the extent of the damage, but he has been ruled out of any action in the immediate future.

Ryder joined the Warriors from Saracens in 2010 and has since represented Scotland 'A' thanks to his Glaswegian father, having won age-grade caps for England.

"It's a blow for Fraser but I've always stressed the importance of performing on Scotland 'A' duty and consistently for your club," Scotland boss Andy Robinson said.  "Tom has done this and deserves this chance."
