Former Scotland international Ally Hogg has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the Newcastle Falcons.

The 29-year-old has 48 caps to his name for Scotland and arrived at the Falcons from Edinburgh back in the summer of 2010. And despite Newcastle finding themselves eight points adrift at the foot of the Aviva Premiership table, Hogg has re-signed regardless of which division they find themselves in next season.

Upon re-committing to the Falcons, Hogg highlighted owner Semore Kurdi's ambition as a key reason behind his decision. "Semore Kurdi's vision for the club excites me and that was a key factor in wanting to stay," Hogg said. "The supporters are really good up here too and they have really driven this club forward. It has been a great feeling to play at Kingston Park in the last few weeks and the fans have been fantastic.

"They [supporters] can see how improved the performances have been of late and the club is certainly turning a corner."

And despite there being just five games left in the Premiership season, Hogg is still optimistic that they can haul back Wasps and retain their top-level status.

"The new coaches have changed things quite a bit and the next five games are crucial if we want to be playing Premiership rugby next season," Hogg said. "We have a massive opportunity to secure our Premiership status with Worcester away next week and then Sale Sharks at home.

"If we can get a good couple of results in those matches then we have an excellent chance of survival."
