Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett has selected winger Matt Proctor from club rugby to replace injured fullback Andre Taylor in the starting side to face the Blues at Eden Park in Auckland.

Proctor, who played for Oriental-Rongotai in Wellington's Swindale Shield competition last Saturday, was named ahead of other candidates to replace Taylor after the fullback sustained an ankle injury in the victory against the Chiefs at Westpac Stadium.

Hammett's other options were to shift All Blacks wing Cory Jane to fullback, where he began his Super Rugby career, or to recall Marty Banks, who started three games at the back earlier this season. There was also the prospect of shifting Beauden Barrett, as happened several times last year, but Hammett elected to stick closely to the combination that was so effective in dismantling the Chiefs.

Proctor is the only confirmed change to the side that thumped the Chiefs, but Ben Franks is in doubt with a groin niggle. The All Blacks loose-head prop has been bracketed with Reggie Goodes.

Uncertainty also surrounds the make-up of the bench, with hookers Motu Matu'u and Ash Dixon each under an injury clouds. The versatile Goodes will also cover them, with Mike Kainga and Brendon Edmonds named as back-ups if required.

Hurricanes: Matt Proctor; Cory Jane, Conrad Smith (capt), Alapati Leiua, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Victor Vito, Jack Lam, Faifili Levave, James Broadhurst, Jeremy Thrush, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Dane Coles, Ben Franks/Reggie Goodes. Replacements: Ash Dixon/Motu Matu'u/Goodes/Mike Kainga, Chris Eves, Goodes/Brendon Edmonds, Brad Shields, Ardie Savea, Chris Smylie, Tim Bateman, James Marshall.
