Japan 21 - 61 New Zealand Maori

New Zealand Maori All Blacks scored eight tries in defeating Japan 61-21 at Noevir Stadium in Kobe, extending their undefeated run against international opposition to 17 matches since 2003.

Japan were undefeated in 11 matches, including victories over Samoa and Italy, but they were undone by errors and never threatened to scalp their rivals, who were clinical with ball in hand. Ihaia West bagged 26 points for the Maori, with a try, six conversions and three penalties, while Jason Emery scored two tries and Chris Eves, Sean Powlett, Nehe Milner-Skudder, captain Charles Ngatai and James Lowe also touched down.

Japan were awarded two penalty tries, from a textbook rolling maul and from a scrum on the Maori line, while Amanaki Lelei Mafi scored from open play after a break from replacement fly-half Kosei Ono.

The sides play each other again in Tokyo next weekend.
