Five Super Rugby players have been named in the Australian U20 squad for the World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy. Head coach Adrian Thompson named the 28-man squad on Monday which features the return of Melbourne Rebels fullback Jonah Placid.

The Australian side fell to New Zealand in the final of the Oceania Junior Rugby Championship on Saturday, but will be bolstered by Placid's return. The side will also feature Super Rugby players Lolo Fakaosilea, Michael Gunn and Adam Korcyzk from the Reds, Andrew Kellaway from the Waratahs as well as Australian Sevens player Brad Wilkin.

Thompson was happy with the return of several Super Rugby players.

"The Oceania Rugby Junior Championship provided a great Test for our squad and has given us an ideal preparation for the World Championship," Thomspon said. "The return of our Super Rugby players adds key leadership and experience and we have strong depth across the squad."

The Australian side will fly out to Italy on May 25 and will have their first match against Samoa on Tuesday June 2. Australia placed fifth in 2014 and have drawn last year's runners-up South Africa alongside host nation Italy in Pool B.
