Rebels add another Kiwi in forward recruitment

Lock Culum Retallick is moving across the Tasman to play for the Melbourne Rebels after agreeing to a two-year deal with the Super Rugby side.

Retallick, 30, made his debut in the competition with the Chiefs in 2010, before moving to the Highlanders, where he played alongside future Rebels teammates Tamati Ellison and Adam Thomson. The cousin of All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick, he has spent the past three seasons with the Blues.

Retallick's recruitment comes just a day after the Rebels announced former All Blacks back-rower Adam Thomson would be joining the franchise for 2016. And like Thomson, Retallick said he was excited to be joining the Rebels on the back of their breakout 2015 season.

"I always look forward to new challenges and experiences with a new team, and also moving my family for the first time outside of New Zealand," he said. "Over the last couple of years, there seems to be a shift in the way the Rebels are playing, and there seems to be a lot of hard work; they're exciting times moving forward.

"I'm really looking forward to working with Tony McGahan, Zane Hilton and the Rebels' Rugby program, as well as playing alongside a squad of players who I've enjoyed coming up against, and really respected as opponents."
