Keegan Daniel is returning to the Sharks having spent two seasons with Japanese Top League Kubota Spears.

The back-rower, who won five caps for South Africa between 2010 and 2012, played 199 Super Rugby matches for the Sharks, 59 of those as captain, and led the Natal team to Currie Cup glory in 2013.

Daniels' return is timely, as the Sharks have lost of wealth of experience with the departure of Jannie and Bismarck Du Plessis, Willem Alberts and Frans Steyn since the 2015 Super Rugby season

"Keegan's record at the Sharks speaks volumes about the impact he had at this franchise as well as the calibre of player he is," Sharks director of rugby Gary Gold said in a statement.

"We look forward to welcoming him home."
