The home of Leicester Tigers, Welford Road is one of the most famous grounds in rugby. After the completion of its first phase of its expansion in 2009, it currently has a capacity of 24,000, making it the largest purpose-built club rugby stadium in England. However, by the time the 2015 Rugby World Cup rolls around, the capacity will have risen to 30,000.

Leicester first took up residence at the ground in 1892 and it has been the scene of some of the most famous clashes in English club rugby. However, it has also seen its share of international rugby down through the years.

Indeed, England used Welford Road regularly enough at the start of the 20th century but it had not hosted an international encounter for 68 years when it was selected as the venue for the 1991 Rugby World Cup pool stages clash between New Zealand and Italy. Italy also featured when Test rugby returned to Leicester eight years later for the Azzurri's 1999 Rugby World Cup meeting with Tonga.
