Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires is regarded as one of the most intimidating stadiums in world rugby, unsurprising given its nickname in Argentina - El Fortin (The Fort).

Its official name is Estadio Jose Amalfitani, after the man who was president of the Velez Sarsfield club for over 30 years. It is in the Liniers neighbourhood on the edge of Buenos Aires.

It takes only 20 minutes to get to the stadium from downtown Buenos Aires and is easily accessible by car too thanks to the surrounding highways and avenues.

Although the Pumas play international rugby throughout Argentina, Velez Sarsfield is where they play their major fixtures. It has a capacity just shy of 50,000 with a mix of terracing and seats.

Velez Sarsfield acquired the site in the early 1940s. The foundation stone of the present stadium was laid in 1947 and it was completed in 1951. The last major refurbishment came ahead of the 1978 football World Cup when the stadium was remodelled to meet FIFA's requirements and hosted several group matches.
