Biarritz climbed to third place in the Top 14 table with a 27-12 victory over Perpignan at the Parc des Sports Aguilera.

Tries from Argentinean fullback Marcelo Bosch and USA Eagles speedster Takudzwa Ngwenya and the combined kicking exploits of Julien Peyrelongue and Dimitri Yachvili carried the Basque side to their sixth victory of the season that lifts them above both Perpignan and Toulouse.

Fullback Jerome Porical landed three first half penalties and fly-half Steve Meyer slotted a drop goal to give the visitors a narrow half-time lead but they were unable to withstand Biarritz's second half fightback.

The defeat will have brought the defending champions down to earth following their comfortable victory over title rivals Clermont Auvergne last weekend while Biarritz's fifth straight victory has cemented their place as one of the title challengers.

Bosch crossed with just six minutes on the clock to give the hosts an early lead with Peyrelongue adding the extras. But Porical brought his side back to within a point midway through the half with the second of two penalties. The boot of Peyrelongue edged his side further ahead but a drop goal from Myer and another well-taken place-kick from Porical gave Perpignan the lead as they headed to the tunnel.

Peyrelongue restored his side's lead shortly after the re-start and a drop goal from Bosch was followed by Ngwenya's try just past the hour mark. Yachvili's two late penalties snuffed out Perpignan's hopes of an unlikely comeback.
