Former Scotland and British & Irish Lions back-row John Jeffrey will represent the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) on the International Rugby Board (IRB).

Jeffrey will join Bill Nolan on the board, replacing Scottish rugby chief Gordon McKie. McKie has elected to stand down after four years as a Scottish representative.

During his playing career Jeffrey won 40 caps for Scotland between 1984 and 1991, touring with the Lions to Australian in 1989.

"I see it as an extremely challenging position but one which with my background I think I can well- represent Scotland's viewpoint at the highest political table," he said.

"It is a great honour to be appointed as the Scottish IRB rep and one where I will strive to continue the good work that has been done by the previous IRB representatives. In particular I am looking forward to working with Bill Nolan and benefiting from his great experience."

Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors have signed Canada international Chauncey O'Toole on a short-term contract after the flanker impressed during a brief trial in pre-season. "I'm really excited to be here," he said. "It's a great opportunity for me to get what is my first professional contract with a club like Glasgow."
