Saracens have announced that Rodd Penney will join Italian outfit Aironi with immediate effect. The New Zealand-born centre is a direct replacement for Aironi's Dylan Des Fountain, who has been ruled out for the rest of the Magners League season with a knee injury.

Commenting on the move, Penney said: "It's a fantastic chance for me to play in a different country and experience a new environment. I have enjoyed four amazing seasons at Saracens and felt part of something special. I am now grateful to the club for letting me pursue this new and challenging opportunity in Italy."

Saracens director of rugby Brendan Venter said that he had no problem in letting Penney quit Vicarage Road in pursuit of regular first-team rugby.

"Rodd has been a fantastic player for us. He has never been less than committed and has never, ever let the club down. We wish him well in Italy, and will obviously keep in touch," he said.
