Sale Sharks have completed the signing of Samoan international playmaker Tasesa Lavea from reigning Top 14 champions Clermont Auvergne.

The New Zealand-born fly-half, who can also play in the centre, has agreed a two-year deal at Edgeley Park, having spent two seasons playing Super Rugby for the Chiefs before joining Clermont.

A former New Zealand rugby league international, the 31-year-old played in the NRL for Melbourne Storm and won four caps for the Kiwis. He made his Test bow in union for Samoa during last year's northern hemisphere tour.

"Tasesa is a quality act and he will fit in perfectly with our plans for next season," Sale director of sport Steve Diamond said.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have completed the signing of scrum-half Jordi Pasqualin from their Premiership rivals Gloucester. Pasqualin, a current England Under-20 international, will move to Kingston Park for the start of next season.
