Melbourne Rebels have dropped fly-half Danny Cipriani for their Super Rugby clash with the Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday.

Cipriani has been replaced at No.10 by James Hilgendorf after a series of questionable defensive displays for the Rebels, including a poor showing against the Blues in Auckland.

Former Wallabies winger Mark Gerrard and centre Stirling Mortlock have been deemed fit to play and will form a powerful midfield combination. Gerrard missed the 40-23 defeat to the Blues with a hamstring injury while Mortlock injured his back in Auckland.

Rebels coach Rod Macqueen said: "Whilst the training this week has been disrupted due to injuries, it is pleasing that the majority of our players are available and that Stirling is able to lead the team for this important game against the Waratahs."
