The Brumbies have suffered a double injury blow following their shock loss to the Lions in Canberra on Saturday, with front-row duo Huia Edmonds and Salesi Ma'afu both ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Edmonds requires surgery on a fractured foot and will miss the next six months of action, ending his hopes of playing at the Rugby World Cup. The 29-year-old hooker, capped four times by the Wallabies in 2010, has travelled to Sydney to go under the knife on Monday afternoon.

Tight-head Ma'afu, another with designs on influencing Robbie Deans' plans for the World Cup, will be sidelined for eight to 12 weeks after fracturing his radius in the 29-20 loss.

Another player on the treatment table is No.8 Ita Vaea, who will learn the extent of an ankle injury late on Monday following scans.

The Brumbies, currently 13th on the overall ladder and one off the bottom of the Australian conference, travel to Perth to face the Western Force on Saturday.
