Lions flanker Michael Rhodes and Highlanders winger Siale Piutau have been cited for alleged four play during the Super Rugby match in Dunedin on Saturday.

The two players clashed in the 59th minute of the match with Rhodes grabbing Piutau in a headlock at a ruck. Piutau retaliated by throwing two punches at Rhodes' head. The Lions went on to win the match 26-22 with lock Wikus van Heerden scoring the winning try.

Rhodes has been cited for dangerous tackling of a player without the ball while Piutau has been cited for punching an opponent and retaliation. Both players have also been cited for acts contrary to good sportsmanship.

The hearings will be held in Wellington on Monday and chaired by SANZAR judicial officer QC Nick Davidson.
