Worcester Warriors prop Ceri Jones has been forced to go under the knife to rectify a troublesome shoulder injury.

The 34-year-old loosehead damaged his shoulder in training shortly after arriving at Sixways during the summer. Jones recovered sufficiently to make his Warriors debut in the Aviva Premiership defeat by Saracens at Vicarage Road on September 18 but he subsequently aggravated the problem against London Irish on October 9. Consequently, after undergoing surgery, he is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"We are all disappointed for Ceri after he was first injured on our pre-season camp in Geneva," Worcester boss Richard Hill said. "We all wish him well with his rehabilitation.

"Ceri will be missed but Matt Mullan has been playing exceptionally well for us in the opening weeks of the season.

"His absence will also open the door for George Porter, who has impressed us all since his arrival from Plymouth Albion in the summer and I'm sure will want to take this opportunity for more senior rugby."
