Warriors won't break bank to keep stars

Worcester Warriors have warned some of their top stars that the club will not break the bank to keep them.

The Aviva Premiership club are hopeful of securing new deals for Miles Benjamin, Marcel Garvey, Matt Mullan and Alex Grove before their contracts expire at the end of the season.

However Warriors director Charlie Little insists he and director of rugby Richard Hill will not jeopardise the club's financial future in order to secure individuals on big contacts.

Little told Worcester News: "I don't see that players would leave Worcester Warriors for money, which is why we won't get into a Dutch auction to increase contract offers at the expense of maybe not having the strength in depth we want across the squad.

"If people come back to us and ask for a little bit more, under the new regime of Hilly and I handling this, we are able to say that is the value and if they don't want to sign it, we can get someone else in."

Benjamin and Garvey have both attracted interest from other clubs but Little insists Worcester will not waste time in trying to add to their squad.

"We are, and have been in discussions with players Hilly wants," Little added. "If they agree, then great, but we are not going to overspend, as we have perhaps done in the past. We know how many players we want in the squad next year and we know the quality we want."
