The Cardiff Blues have lined up Newport Gwent Dragons fly-half Jason Tovey as the man to ignite their backline, according to reports.

The 22-year-old's contract is up at the end of the season and with Blues' half-back Ceri Sweeney reportedly on the verge of returning to Pontypridd, Tovey is the man earmarked to unleash the likes of Jamie Roberts and Alex Cuthbert, according to the Western Mail.

And in a further boost to the Blues, Kiwi fullback Ben Blair is taking to the field against Gloucester on Saturday for the first time in 15 months. The 32-year-old damaged his knee back in October 2010 and he is relishing the chance to turn out for the Blues once again.

"I've really missed playing so it will be good to get a run out," Blair said. "The rehab work on the knee has gone well and it feels good. When I first injured the knee I don't think anyone expected it to take so long to get back.

"It's been a hugely frustrating period for me both on and off the pitch over the last 15 months. It's been extremely hard both mentally and physically to get to the position where I am able to play again, so I'm just looking forward to finally having a match."
