England and London Irish fullback Delon Armitage has been cautioned for assault following a scuffle at a nightclub in Torquay.

The 28-year-old was arrested in January after an incident in which a man suffered a split lip. Armitage had played the previous day for the England Saxons against the Irish Wolfhounds at Sandy Park, Exeter.

Armitage, who has won 26 caps for England, was then suspended from the England Saxons Elite Player Squad. A Devon and Cornwall Police spokeswoman said of Armitage: "He received a police caution on March 23."

Armitage, who is expected to join brothers Guy and Steffon at Toulon this summer, was part of England's 2011 Rugby World Cup squad. But was cut from the squad by Stuart Lancaster for this season's Six Nations.

Armitage has been in trouble on and off the pitch a number of times in recent seasons, including receiving an eight-week ban for pushing and verbally abusing an anti-doping officer and three weeks for punching Northampton's Stephen Myler in April 2011.
