Aviva Premiership basement side Newcastle Falcons have suffered a blow with the news that Jeremy Manning is out for the rest of the season.

The fullback ruptured ligaments in his right thumb during the Falcons' 31-31 draw with the British Army in Portugal last week. Manning his turned out in 16 games for the Premiership side this season and has scored two tries in the process.

With Newcastle trailing Wasps by eight points and with just three games left to play in the Premiership, the New Zealander was understandably upset to be missing the run-in.

"It was a very frustrating day yesterday to be told that I would be missing the rest of the season and it has certainly come at the wrong time," Manning said. "I am not sure how I actually picked up the injury but after I scored my two tries I made a couple of tackles so it must have happened in the tackles."
