Parker swaps Ospreys for London Welsh

The Ospreys have confirmed that former Wales centre Sonny Parker will leave the region at the end of the season to take up a new deal with London Welsh.

Parker signed for the region in 2004 and has since turned in 157 appearances and crossed the line 29 times for the side. But with huge upheaval within the Welsh regions, Parker has opted to make the switch to promotion hopefuls London Welsh.

He will link up with former Ospreys boss Lyn Jones at the club and the coach is looking forward to working with Parker once again. "Sonny was a very good international player and is still an excellent rugby player," Jones said. "We're delighted to have him on board for next season - he'll give us an attacking edge whether that's in the Championship or the Premiership.

"It's a signing that illustrates the ambition of the club and we look forward to strengthening our ties with Wales and the WRU in the future."

Parker is relishing the chance to make the move to London while also maintaining that the future looks bright for the Ospreys despite the region losing a host of stars in the past couple of years.

"It's hard to leave the Ospreys but I understand the situation and where things are at the moment," Parker said. "I genuinely believe that in Steve Tandy the team is in good hands for the future."
