Cardiff Blues have received a pre-season boost after prop Tau Filise signed an extension to his contract.

The Tongan international joined Cardiff Blues from Bath in 2006 and since then he has played 130 times and won the Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo-Welsh Cup.

The 34-year-old previously played for Auckland Blues and Bay of Plenty and he also appeared for Tonga at the 2007 and 2011 Rugby World Cups.

"I am delighted that the Blues have managed to retain a player of Fau's quality for the forthcoming season," Cardiff Blues' director of rugby Phil Davies said. "He has shown over a number of years how valuable he is to the team and to have someone of his experience will be a huge asset next season back at the Arms Park."

He is the second Cardiff Blues player in recent days to sign a contract extension, after wing Alex Cuthbert ended speculation that he would be moving to France by pledging his immediate future to the club.
