Leicester Tigers have received an early Christmas present with the news that two of their forwards have re-committed their futures to the club.

Versatile forward Steve Mafi has penned a new deal and flanker Julian Salvi has also opted to extend his contract with the Tigers. Mafi arrived at the Tigers back in 2010 and was named Leicester's Players' Player of the Year in 2012. The Tongan offers an option in both the second-row and in the back-row and has quickly established himself a reputation as one of the Aviva Premiership's most underrated players.

Salvi, who played for a year at Bath in 2009-10, signed ahead of the 2011-12 campaign and plays predominantly at openside. Coach Richard Cockerill, who is still waiting on second-row Geoff Parling and fly-half George Ford to commit their respective futures to the club, was delighted with the pairs' decision.

"Steve is just 23 years of age and we believe he will get better and better in this environment, playing alongside other top-class players," Cockerill said. "Julian Salvi is an important player for us as an out-and-out openside. He's just 27 but he's an experienced player and has been in very good form with us."
