Schreuder gets Springboks call

Western Province scrum-half Louis Schreuder has been called up to the South Africa squad in the place of the injured Bulls No.9 Francois Hougaard.

The uncapped Schreuder is the second scrum-half replacement to be drafted into the Springbok squad in the past three days, following Piet van Zyl's call-up for Jano Vermaak, who injured his hamstring in the 44-10 victory over Italy in Durban last Saturday.

Hougaard was sent for scans on Tuesday to assess an old knee injury which flared up again during training in Hazyview on Monday. The specialist opinion was that Hougaard be withdrawn from the squad currently preparing to tackle Scotland at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday and he will be re-evaluated in two weeks' time.

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer said: "Losing two No.9s in such a short space of time is obviously a setback, but I've always rated Piet van Zyl and Louis Schreuder as two of the best young scrum-halves in South Africa."

Flanker Francois Louw has also been released from the squad ahead of his wedding day and will not be considered for the clash against the Scots with the team to be announced on Wednesday.
