Ben Mowen denies he will quit the Brumbies early or that he will sit out the Super Rugby season due to his contract row with the Australian Rugby Union (ARU).

Rumour have spread in Canberra that the Brumbies captain might not play in round one as he still has not agreed terms with the ARU over his 2014 contract after his decision to quit Australian rugby "for family reasons" at the end of the season.

Mowen, however, has rejected the speculation that he will sit out the Brumbies season, telling Rugby Gold "I will definitely be there". A union spokesman, meanwhile, told Rugby Gold that negotiations were "ongoing" as "final details around his contract are still being worked out".

Mowen recommitted to the Brumbies last year, but the player and the ARU are yet to agree a release date and his club contract is binding only when the union contract is also signed.

The ARU won't release Mowen to move to France until after the third Bledisloe Cup match in October - despite the likelihood Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie won't pick the back-rower this winter.
