When Japan's Kosuke Hashino ran towards the line for a simple try during the Hong Kong Sevens it must have seemed a good idea to cap his interception with a flourish. First came the hand in the air as he approached the line, but the swan dive proved a step too far.

As he dived the ball slipped from his grasp and he was left lying face down as the jeers rang round the ground. At least he sheepishly smiled as his team-mates approached.

Fortunately, it was not a crucial miss. The final whistle went seconds later and Japan still won the game against Italy 26-7.
