Biarritz and France scrum-half Dimitri Yachvili will retire at the end of the season.

Yachvili, who played at Gloucester in the 2001-02 season, will hang up his boots in May, bringing the curtain down on a career that saw him win 59 caps for France and play in two World Cups.

Yachvili, 33, was an essential cog in the successful Biarritz side of the last decade and helped guide them to Top 14 championships in 2005 and 2006, the Heineken Cup final in 2006 and 2010 as well as the Amlin Challenge Cup title in 2012.

But following a season which has seen Biarritz relegated to PROD2, Yachvili told L'Equipe fatigue and relegation were the reasons behind his decision. He said: "I'm tired emotionally, mentally, physically. This is the time for me to end my career." He added the "motivation is no longer there" following Biarritz's demotion.
