The exodus from Perpignan has already begun with Toulon announcing they have signed France international lock Romain Taofifenua from the newly-relegated club.

Taofifenua, who has two caps for France, has signed a two-year contract with Toulon as his former club face up to their first relegation in 103 years. The lock is reported to have had a clause in his contract allowing him to move clubs if Perpignan slipped into the Pro D2.

Perpignan were relegated on Saturday after a narrow 25-22 defeat at Clermont on the final day of the Top 14 season. Despite a valiant effort, Perpignan were doomed after relegation rivals Oyonnax took a point in a defeat at Brive.

Taofifenua joins fellow Perpignan forward Guilhem Guirado in moving to Toulon, with the current European champions signing an array of stars for next season. Cardiff's Leigh Halfpenny, Montpellier scrum-half Eric Escande, Georgian back-rower Mamuka Gorgodze, and Clermont flanker Gerhard Vosloo will all move to Stade Mayol this summer.
