South African flanker Schalk Burger has signed a two-year contract with Japanese club Suntory Sungoliath but it will not impact on his availability for Super Rugby or the national side.

Burger, 31, will play in Japan from August to October, and while he will miss the Currie Cup he will be available for all Super Rugby games.

Although he has not played for South Africa since 2011, he has been named in the squad for this month's internationals against Wales and Scotland.
