The Ospreys are expected to be without their Wales prop Nicky Smith for up to four months, according to reports on the BBC.

Smith came on against New Zealand in the 73rd minute on Saturday but was forced off just three minutes later with a torn pectoral muscle. The Ospreys medical performance manager Chris Towers has since confirmed he is not expected back for around four months following his operation.

"It's disappointing for him," Ospreys boss Steve Tandy said of Smith. "We'll miss him through the next round of the Champions Cup and Christmas period which will be a big loss for us.

"But it's someone else's opportunity. Nicky will be concentrating on his rehab and getting back up to speed as quick as he can."

The news further compounds the Ospreys' woes in the front-row with Duncan Jones out for six weeks and Ryan Bevington likely to miss the next couple of months.

A further injury setback for the Ospreys sees winger Jeff Hassler set for a lengthy spell out after he suffered a "significant knee ligament injury" while on Canada duty against Romania.
