Australian back Matt Giteau has returned to training with French and European champions Toulon after more than two months on the sidelines with a groin injury.

The 32-year-old fly-half, who can also play in the centres, has not appeared since being injured in Toulon's 23-13 European Champions Cup victory at Ulster on October 25. But he rejoined his teammates in Monday's training session that was open to the public.

The former Brumbies and Force star could make his comeback as soon as Saturday and the visit of Racing Metro to the Mayol stadium. Giteau's return to the training paddock could not be more timely with his former Wallabies teammate James O'Connor having left Toulon to link up with Queensland Reds.

O'Connor is one of three major recruits for the Brisbane-based Super Rugby franchise with code-hopper Karmichael Hunt already impressing during pre-season training, and former All Blacks back-rower Adam Thomson set to commence a two-year deal in February.

Toulon were beaten by Montpellier in their most recent Top 14 game at the weekend.
