Super Rugby
May to cover Schwalger at Hurricanes
February 2, 2015

The Hurricanes have called up prop Ben May as an injury replacement for their Super Rugby campaign.

The ex-Hurricane will replace former All Blacks prop John Schwalger, who is likely to not take any part this season because of the discovery of further blood clots in his lungs, an issue that was first diagnosed last year.

May, 32, has completed a second season of Japanese club rugby and returns to add to the 29 games he played for the Hurricanes in 2012-13. The former Maori All Blacks prop also played three games for the Crusaders in 2007 and 33 for the Chiefs during four seasons there.

Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd received some positive news when two other props returned from injury in Saturday's pre-season win over the Crusaders in Eketahuna. Jeff Toomaga-Allen (knee) and Reggie Goodes (concussion) played without problem, along with returning flanker Ardie Savea (bicep). All three were sidelined during Wellington's dismal NPC campaign last year.
