Brumbies utility back Robbie Coleman has extended his contract with the ACT franchise until the end of the 2017 season. A veteran of more than 60 games over five seasons with the Brumbies, Coleman is one of the side's most experienced backs.

Fielding interest from Australian rivals, teams overseas and cross-code rivals, Coleman said Canberra was always his preferred option.

"There were a few other things that we looked at but at the end of the day my first choice was to stay in Canberra with the Brumbies so I'm pleased we were able to make that happen," Coleman said. "Working with Stephen Larkham has been huge for my career and I continue to learn plenty from him. He was a big part of me wanting to stay with the Brumbies as I know I can becomes a better player here.

"As a Canberra-based player, I played all my junior footy in Queanbeyan, I hope this shows there are good opportunities here for local players. By the time my new deal is up I'll have been contracted with the Brumbies for seven years and there are certainly other young guys coming through the ranks in Canberra who are capable of achieving the same thing."

Coleman made his debut at inside-centre against the Reds and has found his place within every backline position since 2010, even filling in at half-back, and despite finding his place at 12 this season, he said he had no qualms with moving around.

"I honestly don't mind where I'm playing, just as long as I can have a positive impact," he said. "At the end of the day we've got plenty of faith in the processes and systems the coaches have put in place here so I'm just happy to do my job, where ever that may be.

"Over the next few years I'd like to think I'll be able to add experience to our squad and that I'll be in a position to positively impact younger players around me."
