Guy Noves has been confirmed as the next France head coach, with the current Toulouse boss set to take over from Philippe Saint-André on November 1.

Noves, who has fought off competition from the likes of Bordeaux-Begles manager Raphael Ibanez and England's World Cup winning coach Sir Clive Woodward, will take the national reins on a four-year deal.

The 61-year-old has been at the helm for Toulouse's most successful period in their history, winning 10 French titles and a record four European Cups in his 22-year tenure.

Noves previously turned down the France job in 2011, when Saint-Andre took over, but is now proud to be assuming the role after the World Cup.

"I am happy and proud of this nomination," he said. "Representing my country is a great honour and a great responsibility.

"I am the leading supporter of the France national side and I wish with all my heart that they have a great World Cup."

Noves still has the chance to take Toulouse to an 11th French title, after they beat Oyannax to earn a semi-final clash with Clermont Auvergne.

A French Rugby Federation (FFR) statement said he will remain in the wings as far as the national team are concerned ahead of the World Cup, so as to not disrupt any tournament build up.

The FFR statement read: "Guy Noves will remain silent so as to allow the French squad to work in the calmest atmosphere before and during the main objective for this year the World Cup."

Noves' two assistant coaches will be named in November, the French federation added.

France have been drawn in Pool D for the upcoming World Cup, alongside Six Nations rivals Ireland, and Italy, along with Canada and Romania.
