Alex Cuthbert is looking to put a difficult season behind him as he pushes for World Cup selection with Wales.

The Cardiff winger will want to remind the Welsh selectors of his talents when he lines up against England for the Barbarians, having scored twice against Ireland earlier in the week.

Cuthbert was roundly criticised for his performances for his country in the Six Nations - he was sin-binned against England in the opening match and was poor against Scotland before being dropped for the France game.

And the British & Irish Lion is keen to move on from such disappointments.

"I've got to draw a line under the last season," Cuthbert told the Mail on Sunday. "It's been a bit of a disruptive time. I missed out on the Six Nations and this is a chance for me to put down a marker ahead of the World Cup warm up games and training camps.

"I've had a solid input in that Wales team over the last three or four years and to suddenly not be part of that was hard to take.

"The atmosphere at my club [Cardiff Blues] wasn't helping and my confidence was getting lower and lower, but I'm at a different place now."

Cuthbert may still struggle to make the starting XV for the World Cup, such has been the prominence of Liam Williams for club and country.

Warren Gatland names his training squad at the beginning of June and Wales open the World Cup against Uruguay before the monumental clash with England six days later.
