Warren Gatland has earmarked Matthew Morgan's 'X-factor' as one of the primary reasons for his inclusion in their final 31-man Rugby World Cup squad.

The diminutive back only has two caps to his name - both from the substitute's bench - but his unique skillset and ability to cover fullback, fly-half and the centres has seen him given the nod in the final squad.

"Matthew Morgan is someone we think has got a bit of X-factor," Gatland said. "He's not six foot four and 115 kgs, he's quick and has got some skill, and that X-factor is important. He can cover a few positions as well."

But while Morgan can now prepare for the World Cup alongside his other 30 team-mates, there was heartbreak for seven of Wales' training squad. Gatland cut the likes of Richard Hibbard, Mike Phillips and James Hook from the party back on August 13 leaving him a squad of 38 but he has trimmed a further group who will now be on standby if any injuries strike.

"Some of the decisions were the toss of a coin," Gatland said. "Those players that have missed out, you feel for them massively. It is incredibly disappointing for those players that miss out. It's hard, but you have got to accept that is the nature of professional sport and we are entrusted to make what we believe are the right calls."
