Conor O'Shea's arrival as head coach will transform Italy's fortunes, according to Rugby World Cup-winner Will Greenwood.

O'Shea will leave Harlequins at the end of the Aviva Premiership season to take up a new deal with Italy where he will replace the outgoing Jacques Brunel. He will take charge of a side that finished the recent Six Nations without a win but O'Shea's appointment has been heralded by the president of the Italian Federation, Alfredo Gavazzi, as a "turning point" for the side.

And Greenwood agrees with him. He feels Italy's new-look coaching team - which includes Mike Catt and Stephen Aboud - could transform the Azzurri's fortunes.

"Italy are hugely fortunate to get him," Greenwood wrote in his column for the Telegraph. "He will believe in those players and they, in turn, will believe in him.

"With Mike Catt also joining as attack coach, I believe Italy are going to improve dramatically. And not before time. "
