Mendez to leave Northampton

Northampton's Argentinian prop/hooker Federico Mendez announced in Brisbane on Friday that he will play his European rugby next season for French club Begles Bordeaux.

Mendez, one of Northampton's key players as they became European champions, will join the fifth team of his career : Mendoza (Argentina), Natal (South Africa), Bath and Northampton (England). The 28 year old won two European Cup winners' medals with both Bath and Northampton. At Begles he will also work as the forwards' coach.

Another Argentinian player on his way to France is uncapped centre Jose Nunez Piossek.He will join Narbonne for the 2001/2 season.
