Pumas hang on for win over Queensland
June 13, 2000

The Argentine Pumas kicked off their Australian rugby union tour with a lively 35-29 win over Queensland after trailing at half-time here Tuesday night.

The Pumas recovered from a 19-8 first half deficit with a quick try but they had to cling on in the final minutes to hold out Queensland.

The Reds had only three regular starting members from the Super 12 campaign, while the Pumas fielded several frontline players just four nights before their opening international against the world champion Wallabies at Brisbane's Ballymore stadium.

The tourists suffered from some midfield defensive lapses but were solid in the forward pack, suggesting Australia will have a fight on their hands in the first of two internationals over the next two weekends.
