Bath head coach Stephen Meehan is still waiting for his side to produce an 80-minute performance but he was relieved with the 21-19 win over Sale at the Recreation Ground.

A late penalty by Shaun Berne helped clinch a hard-earned win for his side who saw Sale fly-half Charlie Hodgson miss an even later drop goal.

``When we did get it right we did it beautifully,'' said Meehan, referring to an early purple patch when two tries propelled them into a 12-0 lead inside 15 minutes.

``We played some really good rugby. We can get it right and if we play for 80 minutes we'll take some stopping.

``The trouble is other sides keep coming at you.

``And if you double up on your errors you give momentum to the opposition as we did. They also had a very good fly-half in Charlie Hodgson who I imagine played exactly the way they had been rehearsing and it worked very well for them.''

Meehan added: ``The most promising aspect of today from our point of view though was that we kept fighting and put enough pressure on Sale for us to win the game.''

Meehan had a word of praise for his fly-half, Berne, who kicked the winning goal.

``Shaun is quite relieved, he is quite an emotional guy,'' said the Bath chief.

``Today he shouldered responsibility for fly-half, captain and goal-kicking.''

Looking ahead to next Friday night's trip to London Irish, Meehan said: ``We may have some players available who were injured today, people like Ryan Davis, Nick Abendanon as well as Zack Feaunati, David Flatman and Michael Lipman.''
