Murphy set to quit Exiles

Canadian back row Phil Murphy will leave London Irish at the end of the season.

Murphy joined the Exiles from Perpignan in 2002 and is set for a return to the Continent after agreeing a move to an as yet unnamed club.

The 31-year-old has made 126 appearances for Irish to date, scoring 10 tries.

Speaking about his decision Phil Murphy said, "I've thoroughly enjoyed my five seasons at London Irish. On behalf of my family and myself I would like to thank all concerned with the club, especially the supporters, for making us feel so welcome.

"It is an exceptional rugby club and I will always be proud to say that I played for it. I'm looking forward to finishing the season on a high note and wish the club much success in the future."

Commenting on Phil's decision to move on, London Irish forwards coach, Toby Booth said, "We're sorry that Phil has decided to leave and understand his reasons for doing so. His first phase role in our back row will be hard to replace as will the techniques he's pioneered.

"During his London Irish career his professionalism and communications skills have helped us to develop a special set of forwards. The young players coming through from our Academy have also benefited from his willingness and ability to pass on good techniques. He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future."
