Browne make an impression on Premiership

No.8 Daniel Browne has been increasingly making his presence felt in the Bath back row and the New Zealander is set to play a crucial role in the remainder of the season as his side chase glory in the Guinness Premiership and European Challenge Cup.

Browne, who moved to The Rec last summer, reflected on the performance against Leicester on Tuesday night.

"If you said to us before the game that we would take four points from a win against Leicester then we would have taken it.

"We got two players sin-binned in the second half, but sometimes that can be seen as a good thing as it means that the boys have to work harder together. I think we have showed this season that the boys will give everything for each other. With those yellow cards we had to dig deep and do the best we could with the men we had on the field."

A win is a win and Bath now have to put in another performance against Worcester at Sixways on Saturday afternoon.

"It will be tough as it is a short turnaround and Worcester have played really well this season. There are no really easy games in the Premiership at the moment - Worcester have nothing to lose and will throw everything at us.

"Although the game on Tuesday night was a good win for us, it does not really mean anything unless we back it up with a win this weekend."

After the game against Worcester, Bath turn their attentions towards a European Challenge Cup semi with Sale Sharks followed by their remaining regular season Guinness Premiership matches against Saracens and Gloucester - where ultimately a possible position in the end of season Premiership play-offs will be decided.

"We have a tough run in going towards the end of the season now and we also have the Challenge Cup campaign still very much alive as well. Ideally it would be great if we could come to the away game against Gloucester and have a home semi-final berth already in place.

"We need to keep winning and without many injuries in the side we can have all hands on deck as we look towards the end of the season."

While many things may seem possible for Browne, this time last year, he was feeling the pressure at Northampton for an all too different reason as the Saints were fighting to avoid relegation from the Premiership (which eventually culminated in them going down - not for long it has to be said as they will be back in the top flight next season).

"There was a similar pressure to that which we have at Bath now, but obviously for totally different reasons. It is not nice feeling to be battling for your Premiership survival, so being at the other end of the table is a nicer experience."
