Reds skipper Sam Cordingley is set for a return to France after accepting a deal to play for Pro D2 club Grenoble.

Reports suggest the 32-year-old scrum-half, who played for Grenoble between 2004-06, has signed a two and a half year deal that will effectively end his Test career.

"It is disappointing," Reds coach Phil Mooney told AAP, "He is a senior player in what is a pretty young side."

Reflecting on the latest departure from his squad Mooney added, "I guess the French offer was pretty enticing and being his last contract an dhaving a young family, it did come down to the best financial package."

The news will be a fresh blow for the Reds who are already set to lose fullback Chris Latham and hooker Stephen Moore at the end of this season.

However they were boosted by the re-signing of wing Peter Hynes who has extended his term with the Reds for another two years.

Cordingley is currently sidelined for the Redsd and will miss Friday night's Super 14 clash with the Blues at Suncorp Stadium due to a lingering calf injury.
