Lyons appeals to public over stolen items

Waratahs forward David Lyons has appealed to thieves to return unique Rugby memorabilia, including the 2004 John Eales Medal, which were stolen from his father's car in the Blue Mountains on Monday night.

Police are investigating the theft at Faulconbridge which saw a number of Waratahs and Wallabies jerseys stolen, along with Lyons' prized John Eales Medal, awarded to the backrower as the Wallabies players' player in 2004.

Heading to Wales in August to play for Llanelli Scarlets, Lyons was in the process of moving much of his Rugby memorabilia back to his home town of Molong with his father's assistance.

As his father stopped overnight in Faulconbridge on Monday, the car was broken into sometime between 7pm that night and 5am on Tuesday morning.

Lyons has appealed to those involved to return the items and for anyone who has any knowledge to contact the police.

"The jerseys and the Medal aren't really worth anything to anyone else other than me," said Lyons. "They're pretty sentimental items to me and to my family as well - in years to come they're the sort of things I want to be able to show my kids.

"If anyone who knows anything about it they should contact the police."

The John Eales Medal is one of only six in existence, while the jerseys are distinguishable by match detail embroidery unique to Test match playing jerseys.

Investigators do not believe the theft was targeted and other items were also stolen.

Anyone offered the items for sale, including memorabilia shops or auction houses, should immediately contact investigators at Blue Mountains Local Area Command via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
